When we go to Australia, we plan to take the long way.

By train we'll go via Berlin Prague and Vienna and Budapest to Istanbul where we'll take the plane to India.

In India we'll spend some time (6-8 weeks) before going to Thailand.

From Bankok we'll fly again to Darwin and get a car to drive along the Australian eastcoast all the way to Melbourne.
